Newham Word Festival

Monday 6 – Sunday 19 November 2017

I am very pleased to welcome you to the first Newham Word Festival – two
weeks of events celebrating the written and spoken word.

There is such a fantastic array of talent across our borough, and we’re delighted to be working with local artists and organisations to programme a huge range of events including spoken word, author and illustrator appearances, debates, storytelling, performance and visual arts. Whether you’re interested in stories, hip hop, book making, local history or comedy, we hope there’s something for everybody, of all ages, right across the borough. This is a truly local festival and events will be happening in every library, as well as community centres, arts and cultural venues, shops, cafés and in the street. Words will be popping up in some unusual places, so keep an eye out, and make sure you take up the opportunity to join in with reading, writing and performing yourselves.

I would like to thank the producers and programmers, Discover Children’s Story Centre, for their support in putting together what I hope will be an exciting, enriching and fun programme. I hope as many residents as possible take the opportunity to get involved, and to discover how an enjoyment of reading and words can enrich our lives here in Newham.

Councillor Ken Clark, Deputy Mayor (Statutory), Strategic Delivery and Cabinet Member for Community Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Planning and Public Affairs
