The Big Draw

17 October 11am

Dear Fellow Pirate,

Do you want to learn how to DRAW pirates?
Then join us for some swashbuckling pirate doodling and treasure map making OH ARRRRRRR!

To celebrate the release of Jonny Duddle’s new picture book, The Pirate Cruncher, by creating your very own picture book throughout the day. As you arrive pick up a pirate drawing goodie bag with everything you could need for a drawing adventure.

In Pirates Ahoy!

11.30am – 12.15pm How to Draw a Pirate

How long was Blackbeard’s beard? Who was more handsome, Jack Sparrow or Long John Sliver? Was Lady Killigrew a sea beauty or a sea urchin? Matthew Buckingham, illustrator of Pirate Poems, and sea-adventure, Bright Stanley, leads this light-hearted workshop on what it takes to draw a pirate!

1.15pm – 2.00pm The Pirate Cruncher

To celebrate the publication of his first picture book, The Pirate Cruncher, Jonny will be joined by Story Builders to read his gruesome story aloud on Discover’s pirate ship. He will tell sea tales from working on a ‘real’ pirate ship and demonstrate the essentials of illustrating a treasure map.

3-3.45pm Sea Monsters

Join Adam Stower as he brings sea monsters to life. In Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates, Adam’s drawings literally jump off the page

In The Pirate Drawing Zone

The zone will be covered from floor to ceiling in paper, with a range of drawing activities throughout the day including Doodling Eye Patches, Pirate Gallery, Under the Sea Murals and X Marks the Spot!
